Spider Vein / Facial Vessel Treatment / Sclerotherapy

What is Spider Vein and Facial Vessels?
Spider Vein and Facial Vessels - Facial telangiectasia refers to prominent blood vessels seen on the nose, cheeks, and chin and is due to dilatation (stretching) of the wall of the blood vessels. This problem is often seen in those with a fair complexion. In addition, excessive sun damage, genetics, aging, disease, or a variety of other causes can worsen the problem.

What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy - This is a safe and virtually painless non-surgical method of treating small varicose veins (spider veins). This procedure typically improves cosmetic appearance and associated systems. Over a period of a few days or weeks with larger vessels, the vessel walls will shrink and the unsightly veins will be gone. A few sessions may be required to obtain maximum results.

How does Sclerotherapy work?
First, the veins to be treated are identified. During the procedure, a sclerosing solution is injected into the vein through a micro-needle. The solution causes the vein to blanch (turn white), then shrinks until it gradually disappears with time. Cotton balls with plaster bandages are placed after each injection and are removed around 30 minutes after the procedure.

What results can I expect from it?
A realistic goal would be for 80 to 90 percent of the veins to disappear. While the veins that have been treated are permanently gone, new veins may appear in time and should be treated as early as possible to prevent worsening. It is advisable for patients to follow up at least once a year, after completion of the initial treatment.
